Roger Ledbetter, CPA

Roger Ledbetter is the managing partner at Baldridge Ledbetter (baldridgefinancial.com) - a CPA firm based in Houston, TX that focuses on real estate, pass-through businesses and the business owner. Prior to co-founding his current firm, Roger was the Houston Office Tax Leader and Houston Market Leader in Construction and Real Estate for Baker Tilly. Before his experience in tax, Roger was an audit partner at the local Houston firm that was later acquired by Baker Tilly.

In addition to managing Baldridge Ledbetter, Roger writes a weekly tax and accounting newsletter (plug-newsletter.com) and hosts the Today in Tax Court podcast where he breaks down practical lessons from recent tax court decisions. Roger has been a CPA since 2009 - having graduated from Texas State University with a Masters in Accountancy in 2008.

Roger lives in a suburb of Houston with his wife and four young children. Roger's other passion is his faith and when not reading tax court decisions, is reading classics on theology and Christian spirituality.

Deducting Gambling Losses: Part 2: Sessions Method

Recently I polled my peers on a social media platform dedicated to tax professionals. My hope was to find a resource for tax rules on a state level for handling gambling sessions. I knew it would be an uphill battle to get the information needed for a comprehensive guide state-by-state.
What surprised me was the response. A large percentage of tax professionals were either unaware of gambling sessions or were unclear on how gambling sessions were handled in their state. Since gambling sessions might be the best way to reduce taxes on gambling wins, a lot of money might be left on the table with clients paying the price.     Five Tax Reduction Strategies for the Casual Cryptocurrency Owner

    With so many people looking for more ways to make money outside their 9 to 5 jobs, many are turning to money making methods using technology including trading in cryptocurrency. For tax purposes, the IRS considers cryptocurrencies property, not as currency.
